I grew up watching
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun with my girlfriends and it will forever be a movie dear to my heart. Move over Carrie Bradshaw, Janie (Janey?) holds the title as Original Trend Setter, or is that Lynne? Hmmm....
Anyway, some of my girls decided we needed to have some fun and start a tradition of making time for ourselves; to escape what is sometimes the insanity that is our lives, at home, in the real world. This is our second year spending the night in Napa, California. It was wet time, but glorious with all of the delicious food, the delicate wines, and the delightful conversation. Also, it was pleasant on the eyes to look at these beautiful women for a 24 hour period. Oh, yes, I did just fine.

| The four of us work in all different combinations. Take Melanie and Erin, here. They are old college roommates and have too many inside jokes for the likes of me. Eh, I'm jealous. There I said it. |
 |
| Shawn and myself. Inside information: When we were 11 years old, we'd put on our bathing suits and lay out a blanket in my backyard and take pictures while we "modeled." What 11 year old girl hasn't done that, right? Shawn was born for it. Me? Not so much. |
 |
| Shawn and Mel. They've been best friends since their time in preschool. You could call 'em the "cute ones". (I'm jealous of them, too. ) The three of us have been as close as ever since our angsty teenage days. Definitely the best and worst of times. Would do anything for these girls. |

| Good Shepherd Girls. | | |

 |
| We all were very involved in the youth group at our church. (Can I be honest here? It helps to have cute boys and girls in the youth group, for all the youth pastors wondering how to recruit kids.) |

| Mel and me. This girl is real and illuminating. I love her. We share a love for Jordan Catalano. |
 |
| Beauties. |
 |
| My gorgeous sister with the gorgeous Shawn. These two have known each other as long as I've known Shawn. It's fun to see our bonds grow even more after becoming adults and creating our own families with our husbands and with the start of having children. It's amazing how much we need each other more than ever now. |

| It seems the camera was a little obsessed with Mel. Rightly so. |
 |
| I'm guessing this would have been a cute pic of my sister and I had I caught OUR FACES. |
 |
| Us, having some fun. |
This has to be one of the most entertaining (for ME at least) posts you've ever written. I loved going back in time while reading your captions.
ReplyDeleteSo touching and so true. May I never take for granted these friendships. It's absolute magic.
"It's amazing how much we need each other now more than ever" - Exactly! Beautifully written Keri. I love your photography as usual, you captured all everything about that day, the rain, renewal, bonds as a whole and as they are intertwined separately. Thanks for recapping our trip, I have barely had a chance to comment on pics, reflect, and soak it in.
ReplyDeleteYou also crack my sh*t up. Yes, cute guys and gals are essential to attendance at youth groups, and Janie is THE GIRL.
I'm thinking the bathroom mirror self portraits are a must each year.
Okay, okay, this was fun to read, despite the overwhelming surges of envy that kept rising within me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat pics, Ker, as usual. Wish I was a Good Shepherd Girl too. :)
