You know THOSE people who keep things around "just in case"? Those people who have boxes and boxes of useless items cluttering the top shelves of their closets leaving no room for actual clothing. These items may include, but definitely are not limited to, notes from your "besties" dating back to 1992, dresses from 2001, 83,746,573 bridesmaid dresses never to be worn again, lingerie from 2001, treasured keepsakes from senior prom, prom dresses, clogs from 2001, hot pink off the shoulder sweater from 2005, forgotten and never to be sent thank-you notes (Ouch! That one hurt to write.), and possibly 10 or so identical aprons from your old workplace.
I'd hate to be one of those people. Never giving up anything; storing the baby's swing, highchair, USED teething rings, blankets, first year clothing, and USED pacifiers.
Wouldn't you hate to be one of those people. I mean that's called hoarding, right? I'm no hoarder.
Or am I?

My hoarding tendencies spill over into my photo obsession. My SD card is almost always full because no matter how often I transfer the photos onto my computer I fear that the upload will fail and then I'll be screwed if I hit the ever loving 'delete' button. To my credit, our external hard drive did fail us a couple years back and I lost a fair amount of photos, including those first two years of my daughter's life (THANK YOU GOD for the now dated Kodak Gallery.)
Yesterday I decided to wipe one of my hoarding slates clean and came upon some random photos (that apparently didn't qualify for an upload until now.)
And here they are in no particular order of importance...
Darling, darling, darling, from one not-a-hoarder-hoarder to another.
ReplyDeletealso, seems 2001 was a good year for you!lingerie AND clogs!!
xo,
Stef
we'll see if this works....
Oh these are some buried TREASURES! Love all of these photos and the captions!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear more about what you are purging! I'm a total "non-hoarder" too. :-)
Photos you forgot about are the best!
ReplyDeleteWow, I loved this post! It was like riffling through your closet myself. Well all those aprons did come in handy for Erin's Bachelorette Party! I just came across the photo (non digital) of you Shawna and I wearing these, when I was doing a little purging myself (a keeper of course).
Send the thank you cards late - now. Definitely save the jr. high notes. Save the best apron. Everything else Goodwill. And take photos of all the hard to part with keepsakes.
That cobbler looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteStef! You made me laugh with the clogs and lingerie comment. Yes, 2001 was a big year (wedding and all that jazz). Maybe that's why I hang onto too much from that year.
ReplyDeleteErin, thanks and now the pressure on to clear more stuff out. I thought I was good with the SD card for this year. ;)
Mel, you always have the most practical advice. Thank you and all of it sounds totally reasonable. The hoarding, it's in my blood....so hard.
This was SO much fun to read! Oh, what I wouldn't give to have some of our old notes from junior high and high school! Hold on to those. They are a window into our youth. :) Love Mazzy's self-portrait and your accompanying comment about your lounging attire. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteOh, Ali, my dear....I think I could drudge up some of ours from Jr. High! I'll have to check!!
